additional projects

You know all those random things you do that people should know about because they’re interesting but they don’t fit in a nice neat category? This is where those projects are for me. Things I love, things I find interesting, projects I’ve worked on - a random grab bag of fun.

Homebody Marketing Mailer

I was contacted by Rogue Games, on behalf of Game Grumps, in early 2023 to create a puzzle mailer for their upcoming video game Homebody. Working closely with their marketing director and Game Grumps’ game developer Jory Griffis, I created a 20 minute mailer to tease the upcoming release of the video game.

The experience played on the themes and emotions from the game, giving a glimpse into the world created in Homebody. I utilized the various ephemera found in the game and expanded on the themes and ideas there to create a three puzzles, guiding players through the material and story.

These interactions were supported by a variety of 3D printed items that I designed and printed for these mailers. They were inspired by items found within Homebody and were utilized multiple times throughout the experience.

These envelopes were bespoke items sent directly to a few dozen influencers to play on stream before the video game launched.

DASH Puzzle Hunt

I’ve worked on the DASH (Different Area, Same Hunt) puzzle hunt in one form or another since 2014. DASH is an international puzzle hunt that occurs locally at dozens of different sites each year. It is run entirely by volunteers and has tens of thousands of global participants for each event.

Since 2016, I’ve been the lead organizer for DASH in Minneapolis, scouting out locations, organizing teams and materials, and ensuring the event runs without a hitch. In 2017, I joined the puzzle writing team for DASH 9. And, in 2018, I joined the DASH HQ team as their Events Manager, coordinating and overseeing the implementation of DASH in 23 cities around the world. Since then, I’ve served on the board of directors for DASH.

Custom Puzzles

There’s a good chance that you’re here because you got one of my business cards and you don’t know how to put it back together. Well, if that’s you, here’s the answer! And, while you’re here, why not check out all the other awesome things I’m working on? Or, drop into the Contact section and send me a message - I’d love to hear from you.

If you found your way here for other reasons, you’re amazing! I make a handful of custom puzzles, including the one pictured here. If I’m at a convention or you meet me in person, there’s a good chance I have one or more of these on me - the back serves as my business card. Just ask me for a copy and, if I have one, you can have it.

I’ve also made puzzles for birthday parties, special events, and family gatherings. Plus, I participated in Enigmarch in 2022, writing a short puzzle each day. You can still view all those puzzles on my Twitter account - check them out there and give me a follow (assuming Twitter hasn’t imploded between me typing this and you reading this).

Pictured is the solution to my business card puzzle. It is an original design, and this is the one and only solution. Also, this is the only solution for placing 9 unique pentominoes into three 4x4 grids. Math!
